Maryland Mentor Program Goals and Schedule

Strength-based learning is our focus and the keystone for implementing a successful learning program. The learner’s goals are developed to amplify their interests and strengths while accomplishing the tasks needed to complete their unique learning program.


The main goals of the Mentor Program are to:



ONE POSSIBLE MENTOR PROGRAM SCHEDULE

The following is one possible outline for a family whose needs may be best served by this schedule of services.


In this example, there are five conference visits scheduled in a progressively wider span of time with conference calls scheduled between visits.  All phone conferences are designed to determine progress, review the learning plan, and provide appropriate guidance and support.

Home Conference 1 (August or Sept.) - PLANNING MEETING. – Consultant meets with learner/family to complete enrollment intake process, make placement recommendations, and assess learner needs and interests. Design the initial Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), including resources and enrichment ideas. Support with the e-Tap curriculum. Schedule next conference.

Phone Conference 1 - Two weeks later

In-Person  Conference 2 (Oct) – Consultant meets with learner/family to focus learner needs and interests and to refine the Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), including resources and enrichment ideas. Review and modify patterns of documentation as needed. Support with the e-Tap curriculum. Schedule next conference.

Phone Conference 2 - Two weeks later

In-Person Conference 3 (Nov) – Consultant meets with learner/family to assess learner progress and to make any modification needed to the Individualized Learning Plan.  Coach learner on completing the Fall Semester Review (for high school). Schedule next conference.

Phone Conference 3 - One month later

In-Person Conference 4 (Jan/Feb) – SECOND SEMESTER MEETING – Consultant meets with learner/family to assess learner progress and to make any modification needed to the Individualized Learning Plan, with a focus on the second semester learning goals. Schedule next conference.

Begin planning process for the next year. Schedule final visit.


Home Conference 5 (June) – FINAL MEETING Review the year, including reviewing the Spring Semester Review form and developing High School transcripts for the year. Help learner develop the fall’s Individualized Learning Plan.  Make determination with parent’s/learner’s input of appropriate program placement for the fall to the Program, and the possibility of one or more additional Support Packages that provide additional visits and guidance if needed or requested.
