A Philosophy of Living and Learning
Our approach to learning is about freedom we are free to go about it in our own way,
using our own creative ideas as well as enjoying the wealth of information, materials,
advice, and support that is available to us locally and globally. We are free to use our
time and structure our days in ways that work for us. We are free to travel, to visit,
to see and hear and touch so much of life. We are free to discover who we are as individuals.
We agree with the idea that education is the gaining of knowledge, experience, and skills
necessary to create a satisfying life and that most wonderful learning experiences come when
our children tap their innate talents and interests. As we encourage and support our children's
interests, we discover that the learning and growth that occurs is deep, lasting and empowering.
There is a depth and a richness that shows up in our lives when we live and learn in our own way.
This is a choice for family for closeness, for teamwork, for deeply bonded siblings, for time
to be together as the years fly by. It is a choice for quality family time as a way of life,
not just as a squeezed-in activity. By inviting children to become full partners in the learning
process and effectively addressing their learning styles, interests, and goals, we clear a path
for our children to reach their highest potential.
A learner-centered vision of education nurtures the learner's initiative and intellectual
independence, which allow him or her to grow into a rational, compassionate, and responsible
adult living successfully in this world.
